Dry Creek's 150th Anniversary

Dry Creek Elementary School holds a special place in the history of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District as its first established school, serving generations of students in the Roseville area. Founded in the late 19th century, the school began as a small, rural schoolhouse built to meet the needs of local farming families who valued education as a cornerstone of their growing community.

In its earliest years, Dry Creek Elementary reflected the spirit of a close-knit agricultural region, where a one-room classroom often brought together students of varying ages under the guidance of a single teacher. As the surrounding area evolved and Roseville grew, the school expanded to accommodate increasing enrollment while maintaining its strong sense of community and tradition.

Over the decades, Dry Creek Elementary has undergone many transformations, but despite change and growth, the school remained rooted in its original mission to provide a high-quality education in a supportive and welcoming environment for all students. 

After more than a century of serving students and families, Dry Creek Elementary School closed in 2014. The final classes were held during the 2013–2014 school year, marking the end of a historic chapter as the district’s first school. Today, its legacy lives on as a symbol of Dry Creek’s long-standing commitment to education and community.

Heritage Oak Elementary School in Roseville, part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, opened on September 4, 1990, beginning its first school year in 1990–1991. It holds special historical significance as the first school built in the district in more than 100 years, marking a major turning point as Dry Creek began expanding to serve a rapidly growing community. Built to support that growth, the campus opened, serving students in grades K–5.

Just a few years after opening, the school earned a major honor:

• International James D. MacConnell Award (1994) for design and planning. 

Student enrollment in the first year was approximately 378 students. Heritage Oak Elementary today serves over 570 students, reflecting the continued growth of both the school and the surrounding area since its opening.

Over the years, Heritage Oak has continued to be recognized for its commitment to excellence, earning California Distinguished School honors in 2002 and again in 2010. The school has also been recognized for its positive school culture through its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, earning Silver Medal recognition in 2017, 2018, and 2025. While the campus and community have grown over the decades, the heart of Heritage Oak has remained the same, a strong sense of belonging, dedicated educators, engaged families, and a shared commitment to helping every student thrive. Today, Heritage Oak continues to provide a welcoming neighborhood school experience with a full range of programs, including STEAM opportunities, special education services, intervention supports, gifted education, and family engagement opportunities, carrying forward the culture of excellence and connection that began when the doors first opened in 1990.

Antelope Meadows Elementary School opened in 1992 as part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, during a period of rapid residential growth in the Antelope community.

The campus was built to serve the expanding population of families in the area and quickly became an integral part of the district’s commitment to providing high-quality education. Student enrollment in the first year was approximately 412 students.

Since its opening, Antelope Meadows has been recognized as an award-winning school and a Title I campus, focused on supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of every student. With a strong sense of community and a dedication to student success, the school continues to build on its legacy as a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all.

Currently, Antelope Meadows serves over 650 students starting in the 2026-2027 school year.

Antelope Crossing Middle School opened in 1994 as part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, during a time of significant growth in the Antelope community.

Officially established in August 1994, the school was built to serve the district’s expanding student population and to support the transition from elementary to middle school education.

In its first year, Antelope Crossing served approximately 997 students, underscoring the strong need for this expansion to include a middle school. This enrollment has stayed steady throughout the years. Now serving over 1,030 students leading into the 2026-2027 school year. 

Since its opening, Antelope Crossing has grown into a comprehensive middle school serving grades 6–8, offering a well-rounded educational program that includes academics, visual and performing arts, athletics, and opportunities in science and technology. With a strong focus on the whole child and a commitment to excellence, Antelope Crossing continues to play an important role in preparing students for success in high school and beyond.

Quail Glen Elementary School opened in 1996 in west Roseville as part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, during a period of significant residential growth in the region. The district broke ground on construction in June of 1995.

Originally established in 1994 as a year-round program serving students on the Dry Creek Elementary campus, the school community quickly expanded, leading to the construction of a dedicated campus that welcomed approximately 550 students when it opened in its current location.

Since that time, Quail Glen has become an award-winning elementary school serving grades TK–5, known for its strong academic programs, commitment to addressing individual student needs, and focus on educating the whole child. With a tradition of excellence and a supportive, student-centered environment, Quail Glen continues to play an important role in serving families in the Roseville community. Maintaining student enrollment since opening, the 2026-27 school year student enrollment is over 550 students.

Silverado Middle School finally opened in the 1999- 2000 school year in West Roseville, becoming the second middle school in the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District. Student enrollment was nearly 900 students. Prior to this, students were being bused all the way to Antelope.

During a period of rapid growth in the community, there was a need to expand a campus for middle school students in Roseville. Although the school was unfinished when it opened, its state-of-the-art gym and amenities made it a hit with the students and community. Now students could choose their own form of transportation to and from school, attending a school within their home boundaries. 

Since its opening, Silverado has grown into a comprehensive middle school serving grades 6–8, offering a strong academic program supported by opportunities in science, technology, visual and performing arts, and athletics. With a focus on supporting students during the important transition from elementary to high school, Silverado continues to provide a positive, student-centered learning environment and remains an integral part of the Dry Creek community.

Silverado continues to thrive with student enrollment nearly approaching 1,100 students starting the 2026-27 school year.

Olive Grove Elementary was built to support the district's expanding enrollment and to serve families in the southern portion of the district in Antelope. Its first full school year began in 1999-2000. Just over 500 students marked the enrollment for the first school year. 

Since its opening, Olive Grove has grown into a well-established elementary school serving students in grades TK–5, recognized for its strong academic programs and commitment to the whole child. With a focus on academic achievement, character development, and a supportive school community, Olive Grove continues to play an important role in serving students and families in Antelope. Current student enrollment is close to 500 students for the 2026-2027 school year, staying pretty consistent through the years, supporting families in Antelope. 

Coyote Ridge Elementary School opened in 2002 in West Roseville as part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District. Roseville continued to expand as families with young children moved into the new homes being built all around the new school site. Officially established on July 1, 2002, the campus welcomed approximately 650 students for its first school year in August 2002 and was designed to serve the district’s expanding population of elementary students.

Since its opening, Coyote Ridge has become a vibrant TK–5 school known for its innovative, program-centered design and strong focus on both academic achievement and the social-emotional development of students. With a commitment to educating the whole child and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment, Coyote Ridge continues to play an important role in serving families in the Roseville community. The expected student enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will exceed 700 students. 

Barrett Ranch Elementary School opened on August 7, 2006, in Antelope as part of the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, becoming the district's newest school at the time. Total student enrollment was approximately 400 students.

Built to support the area’s rapid residential growth, the campus was designed with modern, student-centered features, including integrated learning spaces, small-group instruction rooms, and state-of-the-art classroom technology. The school was also constructed with sustainability in mind, incorporating energy-efficient lighting, natural skylights, and environmentally conscious building materials. Mr. Jim Ferguson was selected to open the school as the Principal and is now Dry Creek's Assistant Superintendent of Administration Services.

Since its opening, Barrett Ranch has grown into a vibrant TK–5 campus, recognized for its strong academic programs and commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional success of every student. Barrett Ranch's student enrollment is projected to serve approximately 550 students in the 2026-2027 school year. 

Creekview Ranch School first opened in August 2008 in West Roseville, serving over 700 students in grades 6–8 in the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District.  It was during a period of continued growth and the need to expand for middle school students. Designed to accommodate the district’s expanding student population, the campus quickly became an important part of the district’s middle school program.

In 2014, Creekview Ranch transitioned to a K–8 school, expanding its grade levels to serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade and better support families with a comprehensive, neighborhood-based model. Since its opening, the school has grown into a vibrant, full-service campus focused on academic excellence, student well-being, and strong community connections, continuing to play a key role in serving families in the Roseville area. Creekview Ranch School will start off the 2026-2027 school year with nearly 750 students.
