WHAT IS SUN BUCKS?

The SUN Bucks program is run by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). SUN Bucks help families buy food during the summer when schools are not in session. Eligible children will receive $120 SUN Bucks benefits if they qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through the Universal Benefits Application.

AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATIONS

You do not need to apply if any of the following apply to you:

  • Your child receives CalFresh, CalWorks, or Medi-Cal (certified at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level).
  • You have children in foster care.
  • Your child is experiencing homelessness and/or is considered a runaway.

Your child will be automatically enrolled.

TIMELINE

To receive benefits for the summer of 2026 AND 2027, applications must be submitted by September 1, 2026. After September 1, 2026, benefits will be available only for the summer of 2027.

Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District evaluates the financial information on the form to determine eligibility. For any other questions about the SUN Bucks program (e.g., when will I receive my card, why isn’t my card working?), please contact CDSS at (877) 328-9677.

If you have any questions about completing the form, please contact Monica Seracovan at (916) 770-8800.
